National Coffee Day 2022: Discounts at Tim Hortons, Biggby, others – Detroit Free Press

Set your alarm for Thursday but don’t bother to program the coffee pot.
While many Americans may start every day with coffee, the nation celebrates the reviving brew every Sept. 29, National Coffee Day. International Coffee Day follows on Oct. 1.
Coffee shops, fast-food joints, convenience stores and other places known for coffee are perking up with freebies, discounts or deals to mark National Coffee Day.
Whether you call it plain old coffee, java, or cup of Joe, coffee is one of the most beloved and popular drinks consumed worldwide.
Americans consume 400 million cups of coffee per day. According to Dunkin, formerly known as Dunkin’ Donuts, the chains sell 2 billion cups of hot and ice coffee globally each year.
While there are plenty of coffee shops in Detroit, the city isn’t a national coffee hotspot, according to personal-finance website WalletHub’s 2022 of the 100 Best Coffee Cities.
Detroit doesn’t even land in the top 50. In fact, we are last again at No. 100 on the list, just one away from Toledo, Ohio. San Francisco comes in at No. 1, followed by Seattle and Orlando, according to WalletHub.

U.S. consumption of coffee is on the rise. According to the National Coffee Association, two-thirds of Americans drink coffee daily. That’s up nearly 14% since January 2021, according to the association’s Spring 2022 National Coffee Data Trends report.
Other findings in the report include:
While Detroit doesn’t rank high in coffee drinking, don’t fret. There are plenty of coffee deals and freebies around metro Detroit on National Coffee Day.
Though it appears that coffee chain giant Starbucks is not participating in National Coffee Day this year. No offers are listed on its website. Last year, Starbucks celebrated its 50th anniversary and allowed customers to bring a clean, empty, reusable cup (up to 20 ounces) into participating US locations on National Coffee Day to receive a free cup of its Pike Place roast brewed coffee.
