KSh 200,000 stands tall between 20-year-old Dorcas Kianira undergoing much-needed surgery or having her fractured right leg amputated.
Kianira found herself at Karatina General Hospital on October 10 after sustaining a thighbone fracture following a motorcycle accident.
Nine days later, the patient is still waiting patiently for the surgery which should have been performed within 24 hours, Daily Nation reports.

Reason? His family cannot afford the money required for the operation.
According to hospital director Kelvin Kibaara, young Kianira should have been fitted with a metallic implant to rejoin the now-disjointed femoral shaft fracture the very day she was hospitalised.
Details indicate that as much as medics are aware the life-threatening femur fracture needs to be addressed with an emergency, they are buying time to allow the family to collect the funds.
In the meantime, they are managing the broken bones so that they do not start growing into the muscles around the wound.
The would-be urgent surgery has so far been postponed four times due to lack of funds, worsened by the fact that the young woman doesn't have medical cover.

According to Kianira's mother Rose Kinya, the family has been warned that the injured limb could develop complications or get amputated from the hip joint if intervention delays.
As things stand, the full medical procedure requires KSh 200,000 for the surgery, KSh 150,000 for intramedullary nails, KSh 40,000 for the surgical process, and KSh 10,000 for admission.
That brings the total bill to KSh 400,000, after which the domestic worker will go through six months of recovery.
As Kianira's family hopes against hope that they will raise the funds, veteran musician Patonee is admitted in the intensive care unit with his family calling on Kenyans to help raise funds for his bill.
Patonee is in critical condition and requires KSh 200,000 daily for his treatment at the hospital where he is admitted.
The crooner is known for the hit song 'Talk To You' which he featured seasoned singers Big Pin and Amani.
