President William Ruto has set targets to raise enough revenue that steers his economic development agenda.
Ruto said his administration targets KSh 3 trillion in tax collection by 2023 to help close the gap for heavy borrowing.
Speaking in Kitui on Sunday, October 23, Ruto said the current debt situation impedes Kenya's growth, and it was high time for the country to raise its own money.

He urged Kenyans to help him raise enough revenue for development by paying taxes, saying that he will lead by example.
The head of state noted that through tax revenue, Kenya could be able to carry out its development projects.
Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua revealed that President William Ruto held talks with Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) officials, setting targets for tax revenue collection.

Gachagua said that the tax man will collect KSh 3 trillion by December 2022 to help meet Kenya Kwanza's administration economic plans.
The commissioner for domestic taxes indicated that the authority would undertake a data collection exercise on rental properties within the Nairobi Metropolitan area.
Ruto's government promised to cut down on excessive borrowing, insisting the country could finance itself.
KRA asked public members to cooperate to ensure the success of the exercise.
