The daily reported on the demise of a potential International Criminal Court (ICC) witness who was a teacher in Kakamega.
Christopher Koech, who taught at Khaunga Primary School in Mumias, died under unclear circumstances after he was admitted to the Kakamega County Referral Hospital when he became suddenly ill.
The teacher reportedly went to school on Saturday, July 16, on his motorbike and spend about an hour before he left hurriedly for an unknown destination.

He was later found lying on the side of the road next to his motorbike near Shibuli market. He had foam in his mouth and was sweating profusely, raising suspicion of poisoning.

Human rights activists said the teacher was among the ICC witnesses who were to testify at the Hague-based court in relation to the 2007/2008 post-election violence.
At one point, he was under witness protection and even sought refuge in the neighbouring country.
Koech was set to travel to Hague to testify in lawyer Paul Gicheru's case.
Gicheru was accused of bribing witnesses in Deputy President William Ruto's ICC case leading to its collapse.
The publication reported that Karua and Gachagua took each other on the relationship a president and a deputy should project, showing a stark difference in the manner they plan to engage with their bosses.
While Karua, Raila Odinga's running mate, maintained the need to be submissive, Gachagua who is deputising Ruto, said there was space for a 'strong' deputy president.

She added her role would be complementary to help "my captain stick to the rule of law".
On the other hand, Gachagua said that "he had a fairly good idea of how to help my candidate and give him a backup."
They agreed on the complementary that the president and his deputy should espouse in delivering their manifestos.
The daily reported that Joseph Irungu alias Jowie on Tuesday, July 19, lost a bid to stop the prosecution from producing Jacque Maribe’s statement that implicates him in the murder case.
Jowie, through lawyer Hassan Nandwa, had opposed the production of the statement that was written by Maribe in which she told the police that he (Jowie) shot himself in her house.
Nandwa said the statement was a confession and should be treated as such, meaning the confession statement should have followed the right procedure when it was being taken.

Chief inspector Maxwell Otieno had told the court the statement he took from Maribe was the second she recorded with the police
Maribe had initially recorded her first statement which corroborated with Jowie’s statement, but on September 29, she voluntarily decided to change it thus the second statement.
The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) warned that it may be forced to postpone elections in areas with pending court cases.
Commission chairman Wafula Chebukati has since urged courts to adjudicate the cases to enable them to print ballot papers, saying late judgments have a bearing on the cost of elections.
His warning came after even as IEBC said that embattled former Nairobi governor Mike Sonko had not served them with any court order either from the Supreme Court of East African Court of Justice.

The publication reported that Kenyans will have to wait longer before buying maize flour at the new subsidised KSh 100 per 2kg packet.
As of Tuesday, there was no change in the price of the commodity which is consumed by the majority of Kenyans despite the government's directive.
The Ministry of Agriculture had said it would pay part of the production cost, bringing maize flour prices down from KSh 230 for a 2kg packet.
