Kenyans will have to dig deeper into their pockets to access water from the 100 dams set to be built by President William Ruto's government.
Water Cabinet Secretary Alice Wahome explained that the tariffs will be pegged on a dam's cost. The more expensive a dam is, the higher the tariff.
The dams will be constructed under Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs) where private investors will recover their money using water tariffs, expected to be higher than normal levies.

The president said his government plans to double the land under irrigation to 1.4 million acres in the next three years.
Speaking during a church service in Baringo on Sunday, November 13, the president also vowed to revive the stalled Arror and Kimwarer dams.
He said the two were among the 1000 dams that had been slated for construction to address water shortage and food insecurity issues in the North Rift.
Arror and Kimwarer had been earmarked in Elgeyo Marakwet county but construction was stopped by former president Uhuru Kenyatta over corruption allegations.
Ruto said other dams would be put up in, among other areas, Perkei and Amaya in Baringo county, with another one in Loiwat, Turkana county.
