Governor Barasa in 12-hour marathon grilling at EACC – The Star Kenya

Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa spent 12 hours at the Ethics at Anti-Corruption Commission offices for questioning over corruption allegations during his tenure at Kenya Electricity Transmission Company.
Barasa arrived at Integrity Centre in Nairobi before 9 am on Monday and left at 9.30 pm.
Journalists camped outside the offices hoping to interview him after his grilling but left at about 8 pm.
An official at the commission told the Star detectives concluded their session with Barasa.
The detectives are planning to summon other people regarding a suspected fraudulent transaction paid to Lake Turkana Wind Power for a project in Marsabit.
“More people have been lined up for grilling in the coming days,” an official, who did not want to be named said.
EACC is investigating the project following a controversial deal that saw taxpayers lose Sh18 billion.
The money was paid to a private investor due to delays in connecting the Lake Turkana Wind Power to the national grid.
National Assembly’s Public Investments Committee report also concluded the wind farm project the largest in Africa was poorly managed and that blunders by government entities cost the taxpayer.
Former Energy Principal Secretary Joseph Njoroge, who served as PS in the docket, has already been grilled.
Barasa resigned as Ketraco boss in February to contest for the Kakamega governor seat. He quit before his tenure ended in April.
He left office before responding to audit queries to the National Assembly Public Investments Committee.
Marsabit senator Mohamed Chute has since asked the House to establish the viability of the multi-billion shilling Lake Turkana Wind Power Project.
The legislator, who is seeking a statement from the Standing Committee on Energy, further wants the names of the individuals who signed the contract on behalf of the Government made public.
