Chase Increases Sign-Up Bonus for the Sapphire Reserve – Investopedia
The sign-up bonus for the Chase Sapphire Reserve Credit Card has been increased to 80,000 points. Once earned, cardholders can get up to $1,200 in value from the bonus through Chase or possibly even more through the card issuer's airline and hotel partners.
When it first launched in 2016, the Chase Sapphire Reserve came with a 100,000-point sign-up bonus, worth a whopping $1,500 in travel when booked through Chase. While that bonus offer hasn’t returned since it ended in early 2017, the latest limited-time offer is the best in recent memory.
Starting today, new cardholders can earn 80,000 bonus points when they spend $4,000 in the first three months from account opening. When redeemed with Chase, the bonus is worth between $800 and $1,200. However, if you transfer your rewards to one of the bank's airline and loyalty program partners, you may be able to squeeze even more value out of the offer.
Keep in mind, though, that Chase has some rules surrounding its credit cards. For starters, the 5/24 rule states that if you’ve opened five or more new credit card accounts, which includes being added as an authorized user, in the past 24 months, you’re not eligible for Chase credit cards.
Second, in order to be approved for the Sapphire Reserve, you can’t have earned a sign-up bonus on either the Sapphire Reserve or the Chase Sapphire Preferred Credit Card in the past 48 months. Finally, the bonus is unavailable if you request a product change from a different Chase credit card—it’s only available with new applications.
If you can meet these requirements and have excellent credit, you may have good approval odds. And because Chase hasn't provided an end date for its limited-time offer, you'll want to decide whether it's the right card for you quickly.
Because of its $550 annual fee, though, you’ll want to make sure you can get enough long-term value from the card through its premium perks and rewards. Also, compare it to other travel credit cards to see if you can’t find a better fit. The best credit card for you is one that aligns with your spending and lifestyle habits, as well as your preferences.
